My name is Sumi, and I hail from the United States. From an early age, I've harbored a deep-seated fascination with languages and cultures worldwide. This zeal led me to dedicate six years of study to French during both my high school and undergraduate years. My academic journey includes degrees in International Business and -International Studies. Driven by my intrinsic passion, I embarked on independent exploration into Asian languages. However, I encountered challenges in accessing resources that simplified the complexities of foreign phonetics and writing. To ensure accuracy in my learning, I pursued structured Chinese language classes, which I've diligently engaged with for three years. Prior to my decision to relocate abroad, I completed certifications in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). This rigorous curriculum encompassed in-depth studies in phonetics, grammar, writing, and various facets of linguistics, equipping me with essential skills for international work opportunities. For a year and a half, I resided in Thailand on a student visa, undertaking doctoral studies and conducting research. During this immersive experience, I concurrently delved into Thai and Chinese language studies while providing English tutoring to Thai students. Upon departing Thailand, I joined my brother in Japan to experience rural Japanese life. With little to no foreign language support in northern Hokkaido, I was motivated to begin learning Japanese starting with self-study and then pursuing private online classes. After noticing the growing popularity of Asian television, music, and fashion in America and western countries, I decided to share my language learning journey and knowledge. This resolve led me to develop educational materials to support my tutoring endeavors and embarked on establishing an online presence to share my knowledge with a broader audience.
